Enger's prose sparkles, each sentence a work of assiduous craftsmanship. The book belongs in the dystopian fiction genre, alongside *The Road* and others, but there's an irrepressible joy suffused throughout it that sets it apart. A special book, indeed.

I thought this book would be about the early years of parenthood, but it actually covers the final year of her son's time in high school, before he leaves home for college! No matter. Louise Kelly writes honestly and tenderly about the challenge of juggling a demanding job and raising two boys, and she weaves in stories from her exciting foreign assignments. A quick read, and therefore worth your time.

This is the work of a politician of above-average intelligence — or, in Libby's case, a would-be politician. His prose is serviceable, and the ideas are mostly worth considering. But overall, this book could have been a lengthy Substack post.
